Elections - Postal or Proxy voting
Summary
The law allows anyone included in a Register of Electors to apply for a postal or proxy vote.
A postal vote enables you to receive a ballot paper in the post and return it in the same way. A proxy vote enables you to appoint another person to vote on your behalf, either at the polling station or by post.
You can apply for postal or proxy voting at any time until 11 days before an election (except in a medical emergency when you can apply to vote by proxy up until 5pm on election day), provided you do not already have any absent voting arrangements in place.
You do not need to wait for an election to be announced.
