Local Plan
Summary
The Lancaster District Local Plan is the first local plan to apply to the whole of Lancaster district and the first local plan to be applicable in the district's rural areas.
A local plan identifies land and sites for the development of new roads, housing, shops and other businesses. It also identifies land and sites to be protected from development proposals such as green belt, countryside, important urban open spaces, recreational land and important natural history sites.
A Local Plan is a formal document containing policies and supporting text about land use and development. It is accompanied by a Proposals Map that shows areas that are identified for development and areas where there are constraints on development. Preparing Local Plans is one of the city council's statutory functions.
