Neighbouring councils

Local government in the Lancaster district is made up of three tiers:

  • Lancashire County Council (responsible for primary and secondary education, libraries, museums, highways and social services in the Lancaster district)
  • Lancaster City Council
  • Parish (and Town) Councils (powers essentially relating to local matters, such as looking after community buildings, open spaces, allotments, play areas, street lighting, bus shelters, etc. )

The Lancaster district is bordered by the following neighbouring councils:

• South Lakeland District Council: www.southlakeland.gov.uk
• Craven District Council: www.cravendc.gov.uk
• Ribble Valley Borough Council: www.ribblevalley.gov.uk
• Wyre Borough Council: www.wyrebc.gov.uk
