Parks and Open Spaces (Grounds Maintenance)
Summary
The council is responsible for the upkeep of parks in the urban core, including grass cutting, litter bin emptying, play facilities, bowling greens, football pitches and tree pruning and felling.
Service Details
- In amenity parks such as Happy Mount Park and on Morecambe Promenade the grass is cut and collected every six days between April and October.
- Playgrounds are visually inspected weekly and moving parts are tested every three months all year round.
- From May to August playgrounds are also inspected at weekends.
Further Information
- The urban core includes Lancaster, Morecambe, Heysham, Overton and Middleton.
- Parks and open spaces outside the urban core are usually the responsibility of Parish Councils, or Lancashire County Council.
- Some opens spaces are the responsibility of the construction company, private land owners or social housing schemes – in these cases Lancaster City Council would not carry out maintenance work unless contracted to do so.
