Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA)
In the discharge of its statutory duties, the Council is sometimes required to investigate allegations of unlawful activity. Such investigations may require discreet surveillance or similar evidence gathering techniques. As a public authority, the Council is obliged to respect the provisions of the Human Rights Act and the European Convention on Human Rights. The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 defines how the Council undertakes its investigations in a manner which is consistent with the Convention Rights.
