Enjoy the hustle and bustle of a traditional outdoor market
Welcome to Lancaster and Morecambe markets, home to traditional shopping.
There are three markets in Lancaster and Morecambe:
Lancaster's bustling Charter Market can be found in the heart of the city's historic centre every Wednesday and Saturday, offering shoppers an attractive selection of products from jewellery to cupcakes, arts and crafts to clothes and books as well as delicious local produce and international cuisine.
Situated within walking distance of the city's historic and cultural attractions including Lancaster Castle, several museums, theatres and two main shopping centres, the Charter Market provides a great start to planning a great day out in Lancaster.
Charter Market, Lancaster
Popular with locals and visitors to the district, why not come along and soak up the atmosphere of a traditional outdoor market. Open every Wednesday and Saturday from 9am to 4.30pm (4pm in winter) except for Bank Holidays.
The Assembly Rooms Market is housed in a lovely 18th century heritage building.
Built in 1759 to provide a venue for balls and concerts for Lancaster’s elite and raise money to support the adjoining Almshouses, this Grade II listed building is now home to an Aladdin's cave of period clothing and accessories, antiques and collectables, and arts and crafts.
The Assembly Rooms are open Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 4.30pm and Saturday from 10am to 5.30pm (except for Bank Holidays).
The Festival Market is a traditional covered market situated close to Morecambe Promenade and easily accessible with an adjoining car park – perfect for a day out combining shopping with sightseeing.
With more than 100 stalls selling an enormous selection of products, some that you would expect to find in a traditional covered market, others unique to the market, you are sure to find what you are looking for. You can take a rest from bargain hunting in one of the two welcoming cafes serving homemade meals and cakes before discovering what else Morecambe has to offer.
The market is open on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays throughout the year from 9am – 5pm (4.30pm in winter).
We're celebrating Love Your Local Market Fortnight - 14th to 28th May
Budding local entrepreneurs are being invited to bring their ideas and products to Lancaster City Council’s markets in Lancaster and Morecambe during this year's Love Your Local Market Fortnight.
From 14th - 28th May, the council is offering free stalls and pitches to new business owners at its indoor Assembly Rooms Market and historic outdoor Charter Market in Lancaster as well as Morecambe's covered Festival Market.
Anyone who can bring a unique craft to the markets or add a new and interesting commodity to the range of products already on offer is eligible to apply. Young entrepreneurs are particularly encouraged to come forward to explore this opportunity.
The offer is limited to one free stall/pitch per person for a maximum of 2 days during the fortnight (subject to availability). Traders must provide the necessary equipment required for pitches at Lancaster's Assembly Rooms and Charter Markets. Stalls at the covered Festival Market will be provided. There will also be an opportunity at this market for people with their own equipment to trade in busy areas outside the building.
The offer is also open to local charities although preference will be given to sole traders.
