Funding Your Environmental Projects

Funding sources are changing all the time – this is a selection of community and environmental grants available at the time of going to press:

1. Green Partnership Awards (GPA):

Grants of around £500 and professional advice for local, community based, environmental initiatives.  For further information visit our Green Partnership Awards page. 

2. Lancaster District Community Grants

The Lancaster District Local Strategic Partnership (LDLSP) have agreed to fund Community Grants between January 2009 – March 2010. £30,000 has been allocated and community Groups can apply for a grant of up to £2,000, if they can demonstrate they will be contributing to the priorities of the LDLSP. 3. Lancashire Locals Climate Change Fund

The Lancashire Locals Climate Change Fund is a new fund open to voluntary organisations, community groups and parish/town councils, which supports community projects on climate change.  For more information please visit Lancashire Locals Climate Change Fund website.

4. BIG Lottery funding

Every year BIG gives out millions of pounds from the National Lottery to good causes. Money goes to community groups and to projects that improve health, education and the environment. To search the site visit www.biglotteryfund.org.uk 

Changing Spaces:  Funding projects to improve the environment is one of the major ways in which BIG are trying to make life better for people and their communities.  There are a range of funding opportunities; please look at their leaflet .

5. Awards for All : England

Awards for All is a Lottery grants scheme administered by BIG aimed at local communities.  The Awards for All programme aims to help improve local communities and the lives of people most in need.  Please visit www.awardsforall.org.uk/ for further information, guidelines and application forms.

6. Recycling and Reuse Credits

Recycling & Re-use Credits can be claimed by any not-for-profit group or charitable organisation that collects items from households in Lancashire & then recycles them rather than takes them to landfill.  To request a Recycling Credits application pack (and to register your scheme) Tel: 0845 0500 957

7. Lancashire Environmental Fund (LEF)

The Lancashire Environmental Fund (LEF) is an environmental body enrolled with the Government's regulatory body, ENTRUST, to provide landfill tax funding for a wide variety of projects to improve the environment and bring community benefits throughout the county of Lancashire.  For more information visit LEF 

8. Lancashire Small Sites Reclamation Programme (LSSRP)

LSSRP is an ambitious programme of land reclamation and improvement. Its purpose is to provide financial assistance and professional advice to Lancashire's community groups who wish to develop innovative projects which will enhance the environment.   Visit Lancashire Small Sites for more information.

9. Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Sustainable Development Fund

The Sustainable Development Fund is a scheme with allocates funding on an annual basis to all the AONBs in England and Wales.   Funds have been available for both the Bowland AONB and the Arnside & Silverdale AONB.  To find out more about the funds, please follow the following links:  Bowland AONB    Arnside & Silverdale AONB

10. Galbraith Trust

The Galbraith Trust, founded in 2001 from the estate of Ian Galbraith whose family originally ran hardware stores in Lancaster, welcomes applications from organisations for any charitable purpose. Further information available from Lancaster CVS

www.governmentfunding.org.uk  - Access to Government Grants for the Voluntary and Community Sector

www.sustainable-development.gov.uk  - has a listing of grants for UK sustainable development projects. Go to A-Z, then select 'F' for Funding.

j4b.co.uk  - provides comprehensive grant information for the UK, including a free green funding database. 

GRANTnet  - is a free-to-use service from GRANTfinder, which can help small businesses, charitable and community groups to find funding.
