What is the Sustainability Partnership?
The Sustainability Partnership is a local group of individuals and organisations from the voluntary, community, public, private and faith sectors who work together in a positive way to promote sustainable activity in Lancaster district.
The Sustainability Partnership is also a partner in the Lancaster District Local Strategic Partnership (LDLSP) and works hard to deliver priorities around climate change set out in the LDLSP Sustainable Community Strategy.

How can I join?
Membership is free and open to those who live or work in Lancaster district. The Partnership welcomes those with an interest in sustainability issues, who agree with its aims and are willing to contribute to project work. Membership is also available to named representatives from organisations who meet these criteria.
To join, please read the Sustainability Partnership Constitution and then complete a membership form, which you should then return to the Partnership Secretary, as indicated. These documents can be downloaded at the right of this page.
Current Projects
In 2009/10 there will be 3 streams of work carried out by the Sustainability Partnership – some topics require organisation and action whilst others simply involve information collection or sharing. When you join you can get involved in any or all of these projects to help Lancaster district become more sustainable.
Follow the link above to download the Little Book of Sustainable Living, a great publication jam-packed with easy steps to reduce the human impact on our planet and encourage environmentally-friendly living. You can also collect a hard copy from a variety of locations in Lancaster district. The Little Book has been developed by the Recycling Forum, a topic group of the Sustainability Partnership, and was launched in August 2009.
This project was set up by the Sustainability Partnership in 2008 and is still going strong! PASS on Plastics aims to reduce our consumption of unnecessary plastics and, therefore, reduce plastic pollution in Lancaster district. In addition, the project group provides information on the damage caused by plastic litter both on the land and in the seas.
Environmental Purchasing
The Sustainability Partnership, in partnership with LESS (Local & Effective Sustainable Solutions) delivered an event in September 2009 on environmental purchasing to all partners of the Lancaster District Local Strategic Partnership (LDLSP) and other businesses in Lancaster district. Further events are in the pipeline to encourage and educate local businesses to buy local and eco-friendly products and services.

Recent Successes
This Festival ran in partnership with a variety of organisations for it's second year in October 2009 and was a great success. For more details, see the link above.
LESS was set up by the Sustainability Partnership in March 2007 as a not-for-profit organisation. LESS provide guidance and practical support on growing your own food in Lancaster district.
Climate Change Action Coordinator
The Sustainability Partnership received a grant from the LDLSP Second Homes Fund in 2009 to fund the post of Climate Change Action Co-ordinator. This post will sit within LESS and will identify and develop a programme of projects to reduce the gap between current CO2 emission and waste generation levels and the reduction targets for Lancaster district.
Eat Local Action Plan
The Eat Local Action Plan has ben developed to promote access to affordable, nutritious food, and to help develop a sustainable food economy that supports locally produced food, ethical trade and respect for the environment. You can download a copy to the right of this page.
The award winning Recycling Directory has seen 3 successful editions. The Little Book of Sustainable Living contains an updated version (correct as of August 2009) of this great reuse and recycling A-Z along with other sustainable living information. The online version is regularly updated and can be viewed by following the above link.
