Wonderful Woodlands (Williamson Park) - October 2011

This event explored our local woodland environments. It started with an expert tour of the park at midday, followed at by a picnic and a chance to view stalls from local environmental groups. This was followed by short talks from experts. Further details of the event can be found in the Wonderful Woodland Free Events download.

The Incredible Edibles Awards - July 2011

These awards, developed by the Sustainability Partnership and partner organisation, LESS (Local & Effective Sustainable Solutions), championed local food growing in Lancaster district by showcasing the best food growing projects in the area.

Following judging over 7 categories - Nurseries & Primary Schools; Secondary Schools; FE & HE Institutions; Community Project; Whole Allotment Site; Individual Allotment Plot - Fruit & Veg; Container Growing; and Private Garden - the awards celebration took place on a beautiful sunny day at the Ambleside Road Allotments, Lancaster.

Over 120 people were in attendance to enjoy the site tours, stalls, gardening advice, produce swaps, composting advice and refreshments on offer. Prizes were handed out by Bill Blackledge from BBC Radio Lancashire.

PASS on Plastics at the Storey, Lancaster - June 2011

A fatastic event at The Storey in Lancaster as part of our PASS on Plastics campaign. Local young people carried out a beach clean and displayed all the plastic items in an art installation. Films were on show letting people know how to reduce plastic waste and ethical, non-plastic gifts and house wares were on sale thanks to local online delivery service ESME (Ethical Shopping Made Easy).

The Great Wind Debate - January 2011

This debate looked at the contraversial topic of commercial wind farms in relation to the high number of planning applications for the same in Lancaster district.

Over 100 people attended to hear speakers from a variety of organisations, and with a variety of positions on the topic, before questions were taken from the floor.

This event was very important in informing the local community so they could respond to the relevant planning applications, which affect them and their communities.
