The Electoral Register
The electoral register is a list of the names and addresses of everyone registered to vote in the Lancaster district.
There are two versions of the electoral register – the full register and the edited register.
The full register is used for elections, preventing and detecting crime and checking applications for credit. The register is on deposit and available for inspection at Lancaster Town Hall.
The edited register is available for general sale and can be used for any purpose including commercial activities such as marketing. Your details will appear on the full register but you can choose not have your name showing on the edited register.
You cannot vote if your name does not appear on the register and you are not automatically registered via other departments such as council tax.

Elections
Lancaster City Council elections are held every four years (the next district council election is scheduled for 2011), with all council members up for election at this time.
We also deal with Parliamentary, European Parliamentary and Lancashire County Council elections, and would be required to administer any referendum.
We also deal with postal and proxy vote applications and the issue of postal ballot papers at election times.
