Assistance with Voting

If you would like someone to vote as your proxy, you need to choose a person you trust who will be willing to go to your polling station and vote for you in the normal way.

To apply for a proxy vote you must provide a reason for not being able to vote in person, whether the application is for a particular election or for a longer period.

You can apply for a long term proxy vote for the following reasons:

  • Physical incapacity or blindness
  • Occupation, service, employment or attendance on a course
  • Registered as a service voter

Such applications are long term and generally require some form of attestation.

(Overseas electors, mental patients and remand prisoners do not need to meet the above requirements as their special arrangements specifically allow them to vote by proxy).

if you would like a proxy application form please contact the Elections Office

Please remember that the closing date for new proxy applications to reach the elections office is six working days before polling day at 5.00pm.
