Council Housing
We are one of the largest providers of affordable rented housing in the district.
Most of our homes are in Lancaster, Morecambe, Heysham and Carnforth. However, we do have a small number of properties in some rural villages across the district. We have a mixture of flats, maisonettes and houses.
Vacant council accommodation is allocated through Ideal Choice Homes, our choice based lettings system for the Lancaster district. Full details of how Ideal Choice Homes works can be found here. You may also be interested in the Ideal Choice Homes User Guide.
We maintain a housing register of people looking for a home in the Lancaster district. To be considered for a property you must first apply to join the housing register. Our Housing Allocation Policy contains full details about the housing register and how we allocate properties.
From 12th September 2011 you can apply to join the housing register online. This is the easiest way to apply and you can do this by visiting www.idealchoicehomes.co.uk.
Alternatively you can request an application form online, or contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.
Please note, Ideal Choice Homes will be launched from 19th October 2011. Any new paper applications that we receive will not be processed until after 12th September 2011.
We recommend that you wait until 12th September and register online as described above - this is the quickest and easiest way to do it.
Ideal Choice Homes also includes rented accommodation from other registered providers of social housing who are partners in this scheme.

Current Council Tenants
If you feel your home is no longer suitable for your needs, you may want to apply for a transfer to different accommodation either with ourselves or another registered provider of social housing within the district.
To do this you need to join the housing register as described above, and then apply for available properties through Ideal Choice Homes.
