CCTV Camera

Closed circuit television (CCTV) is designed to take measures to prevent and detect street crime such as assualt, vehicle theft, drugs offences etc.The CCTV System is a useful tool in aiding with crime prevention and ensuring that the streets of the city are a safe place. Lancaster City Council is responsible for the siting and monitoring of city centre CCTV cameras, in liaison with the Local Police Authority.

Cameras are located in 41 different locations throughout the area, and are monitored 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The majority of cameras are in the centres of Lancaster and Morecambe, with a number also located on the Council's car parks. There are also cameras on the Ridge and Ryelands Housing Estates in Lancaster and in the West End of Morecambe.
