Cemetery advice and information
All intended interments, including the scattering of ashes, must be arranged through the Cemeteries Office so that it is registered by ourselves which is a legal obligation. This can be done directly or through the services of a Funeral Director.
Interments can take place during the following hours:
Monday to Friday 9.30am to 3pm, excluding bank holidays and subject to availability.
Grave registers are available for public viewing at the Cemeteries Office at Morecambe Town Hall. Any person who wishes to inspect the registers must first contact the Cemeteries Office to make an appointment during office hours to view them. Area plans relating to burial sections and individual grave spaces are also available for inspection.
Grass cutting, hedgerows and fencing, trees, path ways, and bins are maintained by the City Councils Ground Maintenance team. Should you wish to report or discuss any Grounds Maintenance issues, please contact Customer Services on 01524 582000.
Dogs in our Cemeteries
Dogs are allowed in our cemeteries, however they must be kept on a lead at all times. Dog fouling must be disposed of immediately - there are waste bins within all of our cemeteries.
Please respect other cemetery users and note that Lancaster City Council Dog Wardens patrol all public spaces.
Wildlife and Heritage Walks
We have produced 2 leaflets for Heritage trails in our Cemeteries:
Torrisholme Cemetery Heritage Walk, and with the assistance of Friends of Poulton Cemeteries, we have compiled Poulton Cemeteries Heritage Trail (which covers Morecambe Cemetery and the neighbouring closed churchyard).
These are available at Customer Service Centres at Lancaster and Morecambe Town Halls, Visitor Information Centres in both Lancaster and Morecambe, and on request by contacting the Cemeteries Office.
