Scrap Metal Dealer Registration
If you deal in scrap metal you must by law hold:
- Relevant planning permission granted by the council
- A waste management licence or exemption issued by the Environment Agency
- Registration issued by the council under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 1964
How to register as a scrap metal dealer
You must submit an application form providing the name and address of the applicant together with the details of each place where scrap metal dealing is to be operated within the district area of Lancaster City Council.

Your application must be submitted to the address below. Registration lasts for three years and is free of charge.
