It has had a varied history with many unusual attractions such as wild animals (with, believe it or not, a bear!), a boating waterway and various other attractions. Today attractions cater for the modern day family, whist still allowing parts of the park to capture the peace and tranquillity of a traditional park. Green Flag AwardIn 2007 Happy Mount Park was awarded a Green Flag Award after being judged by the Civic Trust to be welcoming, safe, well maintained and that it encouraged community involvement. For further information about the Green Flag Award Scheme go to www.greenflagaward.org.uk Activities and AmenitiesActivities and amenities in the park include: play areas, swingboats, a crown green bowling green, 18 hole putting green, a miniature railway, miniature golf, trampolines, crazy golf, children’s roundabout, and a floodlit multi-purpose sports surface for tennis, basketball, five-a-side football or roller hockey. Pirates in the Park is an indoor play area in the café building. The area is decorated to match the pirate theme, and incorporates the Galleon Bouncy Castle, and climbing activity and soft play areas, including a separate area for toddlers. The pirate’s area is open every day of the year except Christmas Day and specialises in children’s birthday parties with catering facilities. Opening Hours: 10am to 5pm, 7 days a week. The Café in the Park serves a wide range of food and drinks with the emphasis on home-made and good value produce. The café is open 7 days a week. SPLASH PARK (See image below) - Open for the 2008 season from 24th May. This interactive facility is one of the biggest in the region and provides a fun place for our local residents and to the many out of town visitors that Happy Mount Park attracts throughout the Summer. As well as these activities there are a number of gardens including a Japanese garden and traditional formal gardens to stroll through and enjoy. The woodland walk appeals to the senses of smell and touch and attracts wildlife. Signboards for birds and pondlife have been introduced and educational material will also be available to accompany these. Access has been improved to allow easier wheelchair use.
