Let Bayou Seco take you on a musical journey from the prairies of Louisiana, westward over the dark and starry Texas Plains, through to the craggy Sangre de Cristo Mountains of New Mexico. Wielding fiddles, accordions and banjos, Jeanie McLerie and Ken Keppeler move their audience to dance, laugh and cry (sometimes all at the same time) with their inimitable blend of music and humour.
From New Mexico, the duo celebrate the music and dance traditions of the American South West by delving into the rich stew of traditional music that's been simmering for centuries. A Bayou Seco concert is a lively night of toe tapping music that spans Cajun and Zydeco, Norteno (Tex Mex), Chicken Scratch, New Mexican colonial dance tunes and cowboy songs served heavily spiced with the hot chilli spirit of the territory.
Tickets for this concert cost £10 adults, £9 concessions, are available from the Box Office on 01524 582803.
The following morning, Thursday April 17, starting at 10.30am, Bayou Seco will share their repertoire of stories and songs with a Wild West flavour in a rowdy children’s workshop session of dancing, singing and making music. Meet Sam the Dancing Man who flat foots along to some old timey banjo tunes, find out what it took to be a real cowboy, learn chants and sing songs about rhinos, dinosaurs and the rolling plains.
This workshop is suitable for age 5 and over (under 8s must be accompanied by an adult) and is free. Limited places are available and booking is essential. Call the Box Office now on 01524 582803.
