Cycle away the school holidays with Lancaster City Council

Lancaster City Council is keeping kids active and safe this April holiday with a range of cycling skill courses.

Lancaster City Council is keeping kids active and safe this April holiday with a range of cycling skill courses.

For just £20 youngsters aged between 10 and 13 can enjoy a week long course of quality cycle training.  The Bikeability style sessions will be held at Salt Ayre sports centre from Monday 14 to Friday 18 April.  Each session starts at 9.30am and ends at 12pm.

The course will cover both level one and two of the Bikeability national standard.  Level one is where children learn to control their bike. By completing Level one they will have the skills to ride off road and will be ready to start on road training.

In level two the children will learn to deal with traffic on quiet roads. By completing Level two they will have the skills to make a trip safely on quiet roads and cycle lanes, perhaps to school.

Six to nine year olds won't miss out either.  There are two afternoon sessions on Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 April from 1pm to 3pm.  The basic cycle skill courses again take place at Salt Aye and are £5 each.

Places can be booked and paid for at Salt Ayre Sports Centre, Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm (from 10am to 7pm on Wednesday) or by contacting the booking information line on (01524) 842493, between the same times.

Alternatively, booking forms can be downloaded by visiting www.lancaster.gov.uk/whatson and clicking on the appropriate link.

For information on other activities offered by Lancaster City Council this Easter pick up a copy of the activities programme.  A copy is available on Lancaster City Council's website - www.lancaster.gov.uk or from Salt Ayre Sports Centre, Lancaster and Morecambe Town Halls and the council's community pools at Hornby, Carnforth and Heysham.
