Bike to School Week is now in its fourth year, and has been designed to encourage youngsters who don’t normally ride to school to give it a go.
The Lancaster District is no exception and having the status as a cycling demonstration town (CDT) with 12 designated Bike It Schools, progress is already well underway in encouraging scores more children to do just that.
Working closely with the CDT team, Kathy Bashford, Sustrans' local Bike It Officer is already making tracks to increase cycling levels in schools by providing training, fun activities and offering support to teachers and parents to help encourage more children to cycle to school.
To celebrate National Bike to School Week, Kathy is leading two family bike rides for children and their parents to enjoy after school. Children must be accompanied by adults.
Tuesday, May 6 - along Morecambe Promenade - meet at 3.45pm outside Mossgate School, Kingsway, Heysham.
Thursday, May 8 - guided bike ride along the Lune Estuary path and back. Cyclists should meet at Dallas Road Gardens, Lancaster (opposite Dallas Road School).
Everyone welcome to join in the fun.
Don't forget to bring a picnic.
