Lancaster City Council's cabinet member with responsibility for waste management, Coun Jon Barry, has been elected as vice chair of the Lancashire Waste Partnership.

Lancaster City Council's cabinet member with responsibility for waste management, Coun Jon Barry, has been elected as vice chair of the Lancashire Waste Partnership.

The Lancashire Waste Partnership is made up of Lancashire County Council and 14 unitary and district councils within Lancashire. The partnership's role is to oversee the collection and disposal of household waste throughout the county.

By 2015 the partnership intends to recycle or compost 56% of all household waste.

Coun Jon Barry said: "I am delighted to have been elected for this important role.
"I look forward to working with members of the Lancashire Waste partnership and residents to ensure that Lancashire is at the forefront of waste management innovation and practice."

Reducing waste in the Lancaster district is one of Lancaster City Council's top priorities.  Members of the partnership have an opportunity to influence the way waste collection and disposal is provided.
