Organist returns to perform in Lancaster

Lancaster City Council’s series of free Lunchtime Concerts will continue on August 14 with a performance by organist Dr Colin Parsons.

Lancaster City Council’s series of free Lunchtime Concerts will continue on August 14 with a performance by organist Dr Colin Parsons.

Starting at 12.45pm the concert will again take place in the Ashton Hall at Lancaster Town Hall.

Born in 1950, Colin is a native of Newport, Gwent.  He studied piano from the age of five and the organ since he was 10.

In 1982 he moved to Cumbria where he was appointed Musical Director of Ulverston Operatic Society.  He moved to Lancaster in 1984 and was appointed Director of Music at Lancaster Priory.  Since 1986 he has operated as an independent church musician and composer as well as continuing his teaching career and studying for further degrees and diplomas.

Colin is also chairman of the Ashton Hall Organ Restoration Project (AHORP). The project has attracted national and international interest.

In 2007 two of his musical compositions were performed at the Kent Deanery Music Festival held in Canterbury Cathedral.  Today Colin is playing music from his favourite periods, the Renaissance and Baroque Eras plus one of his own compositions for the organ.  Colin was awarded an MBE in this year’s Queen’s birthday honours list.
