Sunday (August 10) saw hundreds of people grab their buckets and spades and flock to the golden sands of Morecambe beach to take part in the second Sandcastle Festival.
The event, which was organised by Lancaster City Council, saw 32 teams battle against high winds for the title of Super Sandcastle Builder.
Held on the beach behind the newly reopened Midland Hotel, Morecambe was bustling with life as people of all ages joined in with the summer festivities.
And, according to Morecambe Tourist Information Centre, it was their busiest day of the year, with 746 visitors passing through the doors.
Coun Shirley Burns, cabinet member with responsibility for tourism, said: “Although only in its second year, the Sandcastle Festival has quickly become a firm favourite.
"It was wonderful to see Morecambe so busy and packed with plenty of visitors, despite the weather not being as sunny as we might have liked.
"I hope the winners enjoy their prizes."
Those who didn’t want to get their hands dirty weren’t left out either. They were able to enjoy the delightful 1920s bathing belles and watch Punch and Judy Shows in the Beach Variety Theatre. Children were also entertained by Lancaster City Council’s own play rangers with a series of fun beach games.
More than 100 people were involved in the competition and they were offered inspiration by amazing sand sculptures produced by professional sand artists.
