Call-in - The Dome
A decision to close the Dome in Morecambe has been called-in for scrutiny.
A decision to close the Dome in Morecambe has been called-in for scrutiny.
At its meeting on December 9, the council's cabinet voted not to take any more bookings for the venue from June 1 2009.
Cabinet also took the in principle decision to close the venue from the same date and requested a further report from Officers on the best way to do this. In addition, cabinet requested that Officers investigate the business case and possible external funding for the £132K improvements to The Platform, however, bearing in mind that in present circumstances, the City Council cannot commit to this capital expenditure.
This decision is consistent with the council's strategy for redeveloping Morecambe's Central Promenade. It will result in revenue savings on the Dome whilst exploring possibilities for external funding for improvements to the council's other venue in Morecambe, The Platform.
However, the decision has been called-in by the council's Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
The Overview and Scrutiny Committee will investigate the issue at its meeting on January 5 at Morecambe Town Hall, starting at 6.30pm.
Members of the committee will have the opportunity to question the decision makers, make recommendations and potentially ask cabinet to reconsider the decision.
Other options available are to refer the matter to full council who, after debate, can accept cabinet's decision or refer it back to cabinet for reconsideration.
Alternatively the committee can decide to take no action, in which case the decision will be implemented.
