Founder of English folk rock group Fairport Convention, Ashley Hutchings brings his newest project, Rainbow Chasers to Lancaster City Council's venue, The Platform in Morecambe, on Friday February 22.
Ashley has been involved with the English music scene since the mid 60's and after leaving Fairport Convention in 1970 he went on to join Steeleye Span and also began a long association with the theatre and theatrical presentations which has continued throughout his career. He has also been involved with The Albion Country Band, The Albion Dance Band, which then became the Albion Band and also various incarnations of the Morris On bands which set English morris dances to electric instruments.
The Rainbow Chasers was formed in 2004 and the original line up was Ashley on bass and vocals, Ruth Angell (vocals, violin, acoustic guitar), Jo Hamilton (vocals, viola, acoustic guitar) and Mark Hutchinson (Vocals, acoustic guitar). However, Mark Hutchinson left the group in Autumn 2007 and his place was taken by the equally talented singer and multi instrumentalist, Joe Topping.
Musically, Rainbow Chasers combines sophistication, virtuosity and a directness of approach to its semi-acoustic repertoire. The band's sensitive arrangements and instrumental virtuosity are complemented by inspired harmony singing and shared lead vocal. As well as incorporating elements of folk and traditional song, the band's musical identity draws on the classical training of Ruth and Jo.
The band has released two albums, 'Some Colours Fly' and 'Fortune Never Sleeps'. Both albums feature self penned songs which draw on a wide range of ideas and influences. Rejuvenated by the line up change, the members of Rainbow Chasers are busily working on new material and revised arrangements of their existing repertoire.
This concert starts at 8pm and tickets cost £11 adults, £10 concessions from the Box Office on 01524 582803.
