Blazin' Fiddles to play traditional Scottish music at The Platform

A bunch of the hottest contemporary fiddle players from the Highlands and Islands of Scotland will be performing at the Platform.

A bunch of the hottest contemporary fiddle players from the Highlands and Islands of Scotland will be performing at Lancaster City Council's venue, the Platform in Morecambe, on Friday March 14 starting at 8pm.

The members of Blazin' Fiddles each play tunes from their own regions and then all hands jump in for a wonderful explosion of music.  Fiddles and bows blaze away with one of the most exciting and memorable fiddle ensembles ever to take to the stage.

The band was formed in the summer of 1998 when the members first gathered for the Highland Festival.  Over the years, Scottish fiddle music was being overshadowed by Cape Breton and Irish fiddle tunes.

It was time to take some of the finest fiddle talents and show the world that Scottish fiddle music was still very much alive and kicking.   The original show was built around solo pieces that allowed the audience to hear the enormous range of styles within Scotland today.  They continue to play to full houses and festivals throughout Europe and the UK.

The fiddle players are: Aidan O'Rourke (Sun Honey, Tabache), Allan Henderson, Bruce MacGregor (Highlands and Islands Suite), Catriona MacDonald (BBC Radio 2 Young Traditional Award) and Iain MacFarlane (Boys of the Lough).  They are accompanied by Marc Clement on guitar and Andy Thorburn (Mouth Music, Ceolbeg, The Ghillies and The Peatbog Faeries) on piano.

Described by Mike Harding as 'Absolutely mindblowing' and 'The Led Zeppelin of the folk world' by The Scotsman, tickets for this show cost £13 adults and £11 concessions from the Box Office on 01524 582803.
