Blues-rock guitar virtuoso, vocalist and songwriter, Joe Bonamassa, will perform at Lancaster City Council's Morecambe Dome on Friday February 29.
Joe's musical career began with playing guitar at age 4, on a short scale Chiquita given to him by his father, a guitar dealer and player himself. By the time he was 7, he had stepped up to a full scale model and was uncannily mastering Stevie Ray Vaughan licks. At 10, he was gigging at venues in New York where he came to the legendary B B King's attention. After initially hearing Bonamassa play, King said: "This kid's potential is unbelievable. He hasn't even begun to scratch the surface. He’s one of a kind."
By the time he was 12, Joe was touring with King, which led to opening slots for many other stars including Buddy Guy, Steve Stills, Foreigner, Robert Cray, Joe Cocker and others. Joe's recording career began in the early 90s with his band ‘Bloodlines', but the full range of his talents came into sharper relief after the group disbanded. His virtuoso playing finally had the room it needed and his strength as an expressive singer emerged and his solo debut album in 2000 was the start of things to come.
Bonamassa was named as Best Blues Guitarist' by Guitar Player Magazine's readership in their annual Reader's Choice Awards in 2007. Last year also saw the release of Joe's seventh album, 'Sloe Gin' which features a mix of heavy blues, big rock and textured acoustic tracks that he says were inspired in part by Rod Stewart's legendary 1969 debut solo LP.
The show will start at 8pm and tickets cost £15 from the Box Office 01524 582803. Please note this show was originally advertised as being at the Platform, but has now changed to the Dome.
