Kooks go down a treat

A sell-out concert by one of Britain’s biggest bands has been hailed a huge success.

A sell-out concert by one of Britain’s biggest bands has been hailed a huge success.

Yesterday (Wednesday January 30) Lancaster City Council's Dome venue played host to award winning indie rockers The Kooks.

A crowd of 950 packed into the venue to hear hits from the group's first album, Inside In / Inside Out, and a selection from their new album, Konk.

The gig was one of just three 'intimate' shows the group was holding in the UK to publicise the new album, which is due for release in April, and was the latest in a number of high profile concerts at the Dome by some of Britain's best bands.

Last year the Dome played host to, among others, the Arctic Monkeys, Reverend and the Makers and Athlete.

Coun Maia Whitelegg, cabinet member with responsibility for culture, said: "The Kooks are one of the UK's biggest bands and I'm delighted that they chose Morecambe to perform just one of three gigs.

"It proved to be an unprecedented success and went off without a hitch – a testament to all the behind-the-scenes work our staff put in to organising the event."

The Kooks were just one of the top acts lined up by Lancaster City Council to perform at its two Morecambe venues.

On March 26 The Dome will play host to Mark E Smith and The Fall.
Across the promenade, at The Platform, 80s pop icon Midge Ure will be performing on February 7.
