There was a ‘Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On’ last weekend as the Tutti Frutti 1950s Seaside Festival returned to Morecambe.
During the weekend over a thousand teddy boys, jive bunnies and rock ‘n’ rollers enjoyed two days of 1950s themed entertainment.
People came from all over the country to rock around the clock with bands and acts such as The Wildkatz NW, Furious, the Firebirds, Crazy Jay and the Partytimers, Darrel Higham and the Enforcers and Phil Hayley and his Comments.
So many people really made the effort to get into the spirit of the 50s and came in vintage outfits. There was also a great display of vintage vehicles too.
Saturday afternoon at the Platform drew huge crowds and was packed with free entertainment including dance displays from local troop ‘Happy Feet’ and Glasgow dancers ‘Rock Til’ U Drop’ showed the crowds how to ‘stroll’.
Helping to recreate the 50s era were stalls selling vintage goods, Punch and Judy shows, children’s rides, a coconut shy, and of course music; Ricky Aron had everyone on their feet with his tribute act to Elvis and Shakin Stevens. Later in the afternoon the Wildkats NW made a reappearance, building on their performance from Friday night. Finally, the Buddy Holly tribute ended the afternoon in sheer style.
Lancaster City Council projects Poulton Neighbourhood Management and Winning Back Morecambe’s West End funded the event with a grant from the Festival Innovation Fund. The festival couldn’t have been organised without the support and help from local residents especially Sarah Ellis, Jackie Colyer, Keith Louis and Kate Drummond.
