Consultants appointed for district wide arts strategy

Lancaster City Council is urging anyone with an interest in the arts to air their views and help develop a new arts strategy for the district.
Consultation is currently underway on developing a new arts strategy, thanks to support from Arts Council England. Alan Dix from 509 Arts in Shipley was appointed earlier this month to lead the consultation and arrangements are well under way for a full programme of open days in the autumn at which people will be able to share their views.
The arts strategy aims to be a significant document for the future of the arts in the district.
Anyone with an interest in the arts – from all ages, abilities, backgrounds and talents – is urged to get involved. The strategy will cover all art forms and include both amateur and professional arts activity. Whatever is your passion – the performing arts, visual and public art, festivals, digital arts and crafts – Lancaster City Council wants to hear from you.
Coun Jane Fletcher, cabinet member with responsibility for the arts, said:
"We are looking forward to having a clear vision for the district, where all members of the community have a say and are actively involved in the process.
"Most people have an involvement in the arts, often without recognising that fact. If you buy books or download music, if you make your own cards or jewellery, or regularly attend galleries or festivals, this is an active and full engagement in the arts.
"We want everyone to be able to contribute to the strategy and help develop a five year vision for the district. If the outcome highlights a shortage of venues or community performance spaces, then we can start to address those needs. This is the first step in this major process."
You can register your initial interest for participation in the consultation by emailing your details (name, address, post code and phone number) to lancasterdistrict@509arts.co.uk
