Guided cycle ride for women to Halton and the bay

Lancaster City Council's programme of guided Sunday cycle rides for women steps up a gear this weekend with a 15 mile ride through Halton to Morecambe Bay.

Lancaster City Council's programme of guided Sunday cycle rides for women steps up a gear this weekend with a 15 mile ride through Halton to Morecambe Bay.

Guided 'women only' rides have been taking place on the first Sunday of each month since April to encourage women who might not have the confidence they need to cycle on their own, to get out and about with other like-minded ladies.

Following routes included in the council's Cycling for All Guide, these interesting and relaxing rides suitable for all levels of ability have already taken groups of women to the Sunderland Point, Crook O’Lune, Glasson Dock and Carnforth Railway Station.

This Sunday's event (3 August) called 'Halton and the Bay' takes riders along a mixture of terrain from Lancaster via Halton to the breezy shores of Morecambe Bay.

This penultimate 'Women on Wheels' ride for 2008 is slightly more demanding, but just as rewarding as it takes in historic villages, lush countryside, expansive hilltop views, a secret valley and the vast spaces of Morecambe Bay.

The guided ride is free and kicks off at 11am on Sunday, 3 August from the south end of Lancaster's Millennium Bridge.  No need to book - just turn up with a picnic!

Keep an eye out for more information on the last ride of the series which takes ladies to Hest Bank and Morecambe on Sunday, 7 September - same time, same place.
