Abi Westall, 11, from Westgate Primary, along with friends and family, attended a special reception and afternoon tea at Lancaster Town Hall.
The group was also given a guided tour of the town hall and the chance to explore many areas which are normally unseen by the general public.
The visit was arranged following Abi's success in a recent competition to draw the Mayor, Coun Keith Budden, during the Community Festival at Williamson Park. More than 50 youngsters entered the competition and the Mayor and Mayoress picked out Abi's entry due to the fine level of detail she had achieved.
With the agreement of Westgate Primary's headteacher, the Mayor gatecrashed an assembly at the school earlier this month to take Abi by surprise, announcing her as the winner in front of her friends.
He showed her winning design and then presented her with a chocolate bear and a voucher for her tour of the town hall.
Coun Budden said: "I was delighted to receive so many entries for the competition and it was very difficult to pick out a winner.
"I am constantly delighted by the passion and skill of some of the young people we have living in our district, of which this competition is just one more example.
"Abi's entry stood out as being something extra special and it was a pleasure to be able to reward her with the reception and tour of the town hall."
