Get your glad rags on and join us for a festival celebrating the 1950s in Morecambe next weekend.
The Tutti Frutti 1950s Seaside Festival is set for Friday 25th and Saturday 26th July, and will take Morecambe back to a time when rock and roll icons Elvis Presley and Bill Hayley were in their prime. Young girls swooned over James Dean, beehives were trendy ‘barnets’, the ‘teenager’ was invented and there was nation-wide celebration as rationing ended.
The festival kicks off at the Carleton night club on Friday 25th July and performances include; The HotWires, teddy-boy band Furious and nationally acclaimed band The Firebirds. Doors open at 7pm for 8pm start and ends at 2am.
Saturday afternoon’s free entertainment takes place around the Platform buildings and there will be live music including tribute acts to Shakin’ Stevens and Buddy Holly, the Wild Kats NW will also be taking to the stage. Jiving and dancing to the music will be Glasgow dance troupe Rock Til U Drop and local group Happy Feet. There will also be vintage clothing and music stalls, vintage vehicles, traditional seaside entertainment, Punch and Judy shows and children’s entertainment.
Saturday night is back at the Carleton for performances by Crazy Jay and the Partytimers, Darryl Higham and Phil Hayley and his Comments. Doors open at 7pm for 8pm start and ends at 2am.
Hundreds of fifties fans from outside the area have bought tickets and are coming to spend the weekend in Morecambe.
Last year tickets sold out the week before the festival so buy them now. Tickets for the evening show are only £15 each or £25 for a weekend pass (Friday and Saturday night) and they are on sale at the Tourist Information Centre, the Platform, Morecambe, telephone: 01524 582803.
Tickets are also on sale at the Poulton Neighbourhood Management Office, 53 Euston Road.
The Tutti Frutti Festival now has its own website: www.tutti-frutti-festival.com containing lots more information about the event with photos from last year’s festival too.
Poulton Neighbourhood Management and Winning Back Morecambe's West End are funding the event. Lancaster City Council provided a Festival Innovation Fund grant. The festival couldn’t have been organised without the support and help from local residents and volunteers. Many local businesses have already pledged their support in making the festival a reality and are contributing to transporting the town back the fabulous fifties. This should be a fantastic event for Morecambe which needs support from local people, so dust off those blue suede shoes and join in the fun.'
