Lancaster City Council is offering a range of cycle skill courses this summer to get your kids off the sofa and out into the sunshine.

Lancaster City Council is offering a range of cycle skill courses this summer to get your kids off the sofa and out into the sunshine.

All six courses which are on offer as part of the council’s summer activities programme take place at Salt Ayre Sports Centre and cater for different ages and abilities.

If you have children aged four and above learning to get to grips with two wheels why not get them to go on the ‘learn to cycle’ course.  Taking place on Tuesday 29 July, 10am-12pm and Wednesday 30 July, 1pm-3pm the course is for children who use stabilisers or who cannot ride yet.  Children should be accompanied by an adult.

There are also two fun sessions for six to nine years olds on Tuesday 29 July, 1pm-3pm and Thursday 31, July 10am –12pm.  They are for open to all abilities, however children under eight years old should be accompanied by an adult.

10 – 13 years olds aren’t left out either.  On Wednesday 30 July, they can enjoy a bike handling course to prepare them for riding on the road.  The session is off-road and will run between 10am – 12pm and cover National Standard Level 1.

Children who completed this course can enjoy further training on the roads and a bike ride on July 31 between 1pm and 4pm.  Children should also bring a snack or some money for the snack stop on the bike ride.

Each course is just £5 and children must bring a roadworthy bike.

Places can be booked and paid for at Salt Ayre Sports Centre or alternatively phone the booking hotline on 01524 842493 (Monday to Friday 10am – 4pm).
