Brief Encounters by Bike - Sunday's guided cycle ride for women

Lancaster City Council's programme of guided Sunday cycle rides for women continues this weekend (Sunday, July 6) with a 'Brief Encounter by Bike' to Carnforth Railway Station.

Lancaster City Council's programme of guided Sunday cycle rides for women continues this weekend (Sunday, July 6) with a 'Brief Encounter by Bike' to Carnforth Railway Station.

The aim of the rides which have taken place on the first Sunday of each month since April, are to encourage women who might not have the confidence they need to cycle on their own, to get out and about with other like minded ladies.

Following routes included in their Cycling for All Guide, these interesting and relaxing rides suitable for all levels of ability have already taken females down the Lune Estuary path to Glasson Dock and through Overton to Sunderland Point, stopping for a picnic lunch along the way.

This Sunday's event is called 'Brief Encounters by Bike', and will take riders along the towpath of the Lancaster Canal to Carnforth Railway Station with fine views at several points en route.  The ride covers a distance of 11 miles and caters for all levels of ability.

Guided rides are free and pedal off at 11am at the south end of Lancaster's Millennium Bridge.

Commenting on June's guided meander to Sunderland Point, Jayne Leonard from Preston said:  I would like to thank the council's CDT team for a great cycling trip last month - I loved it!  A great bunch of girls, a leisurely cycle, magnificent scenery and lots of fun!!    Although I'm gutted about missing the July trip I'll definitely be back in Lancaster for the August 3rd ride to Halton.

For a full monthly programme of rides which is included in Lancaster City Council's free Rides and Events Programme for 2008 or a copy of the free Cycling for All Guide, visit www.celebratingcycling.org, email: celebratingcycling@lancaster.gov.uk or contact Rachel on 01524 582392.
