If you’re involved with a voluntary or community group and want to hold an event or buy a new piece of equipment but are a bit strapped for cash, you may be able to apply for a small grant from the council’s welfare and miscellaneous grants budgets.
Welfare Grants: These are funds for voluntary organisations whose activities consist of, or include, providing recreation or meals for older people. The maximum grant to any one organisation is £500.
Miscellaneous Grants: These are funds to promote voluntary work in the community for the benefit of the residents. The council is particularly keen to award grants to organisations or groups which provide a service to the more disadvantaged groups of people in the community.
The aim of a miscellaneous grant is to enhance the work of existing local groups and charities and to help new ones get started. Grants will also be awarded to sports clubs to purchase a specific piece of equipment, apparatus or kit to be used by young people over a number of years. The maximum award to any one organisation is £500.
