Lancaster City Council is delighted to announce that Courtney Pine will be headlining the city’s 10th Jazz Festival on Satuday August 23 at the Dukes Theatre in Lancaster.
The legendary saxophonist, MOBO award winner and 2007 Winner of the Urban Music Awards for Best Jazz Act, is in Lancaster to perform a brand new show; Transition in Tradition - A tribute to Sidney Bechet.
Courtney has remained at the forefront of the UK Jazz scene for more than 20 years. ‘Resistance’, his 11th studio album, was dubbed by Jazzwise magazine 'the best Courtney Pine album in the story so far' and his live shows are testimony to his continued commitment to pushing the boundaries of jazz music.
The performance will be a co-promotion between Lancaster City Council and the Dukes Theatre and will be the main headline event at the festival, which this year will take place from Thursday 21 August until Sunday 24 August.
Tickets for Courtney Pine cost £25 and are on sale at the Dukes Box Office - 01524 598501 and online www.dukes-lancaster.org/booking.php
Councillor Jane Fletcher, cabinet member with responsibility for arts, museums, leisure, sport and young people, said: “To secure Courtney Pine is a real coup for the festival. He is a terrific talent and a fitting headliner. I hope that his visit will raise the roof off the Dukes and promote the district as a centre for jazz music as well as providing a beacon for the festival’s 10th anniversary.”
