One youngster from the district has already taken gold in one competition. Liam Manley, from St Peter’s CofE Primary school, Heysham, has won a drawing competition to design the banner for the Lancaster and Morecambe teams to parade at the games. Liam’s design was picked from hundreds of entries from the district’s youngsters who were tasked with putting coloured pen to paper and coming up with a vibrant banner design for the Games.
Liam will be presented with a framed copy of the design and has been invited to attend the Lancashire Youth Games with his family.
Overall more than 1,500 athletes are preparing to take part in the SPAR Lancashire Youth Games 2008, the largest multi-sport participation event for young people in the county. In the last few months, Lancaster City Council’s leisure development staff have run various competitions to select the teams to represent our district.
The games will see competitors take part in 12 different sports, including hockey, cricket, football and athletics.
