Lancaster City Council makes a call for housing sites

Lancaster City Council needs the community’s help to identify potential housing sites across the district to meet the needs of existing and future residents.
National and regional planning policy requires the council to identify enough sites to accommodate approximately 6,000 new dwellings over the next 15 years.
In order to meet this increased demand the city council is preparing the most comprehensive assessment of housing opportunities ever undertaken within the district.
As part of the process the council is inviting landowners, agents, members of the public and prospective developers to put forward any sites which they consider have potential for housing.
Coun Eileen Blamire, cabinet member with responsibility for strategic planning, said: “Although it may not sound particularly exciting, this assessment will be one of the key documents relied upon by the council when deciding where to allocate future development sites.
“It is therefore vitally important that the community helps us to identify the sites which are available so their suitability can be investigated.”
The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) will investigate all potential housing sites across the district examining their suitability, achievability and availability for housing.
The council’s methodology for undertaking this assessment is now available to view at www.lancaster.gov.uk/callforsites
The site includes a pro-forma which can be completed with information on potential sites.
The deadline for submitting sites for consideration is 5pm on Friday August 1 2008.
