Medical staff are securing healthier lifestyles as well as their bikes thanks to funding and help from the district's Cycling Demonstration Town (CDT) Project.
Bee Harding, Lancaster City Council's Workplace Cycling Officer has been working with the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) to encourage more of their staff to cycle to work.
Through the coordinating of training, events and other cycling initiatives, numbers are on the increase but a recent survey revealed that one of the reasons why staff did not commute to the RLI by bike was because the current secure cycle storage was already full to capacity and more was needed.
Thanks to funding from the CDT Project, staff can now look forward to using additional storage to cater for the significant increase in demand.
Commenting on the benefits of additional cycle storage, Peter Dyer, Medical Director of the University of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust said: "On behalf of the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay and staff based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary site, I am delighted to accept the gift of the new secure bicycle facilities from Lancaster City Council. Any steps we can take to promote healthy living can only be to the benefit of our staff."
