Recycling made easy

Recycling is being made easy for residents in the West End of Morecambe.
Lancaster City Council, in association with Winning Back Morecambe's West End, is making changes to the way waste is collected to help reduce litter and improve recycling.
Five mini-recycling bring sites have been created in various locations around the West End where residents can deposit recyclable waste.
Items which can be taken to the sites include: paper, glass, cans, cardboard and plastic bottles. Households will be issued with a re-useable bag for storing recyclables that can be taken to the ‘bring sites’.
The mini-recycling ‘bring sites’ can be found at:
The corner of Sefton Road and Cavendish Road
Alexandra Road (park entrance opposite Cambridge Road)
Promenade behind the West End Gardens
Devonshire Road, on the pedestrian area between Parliament Street and East Street
Highfield Crescent
Where practical households have received grey wheeled bins for non-recyclable waste. For those households without storage space for a wheelie bin, orange sacks will be provided for non-recyclable waste.
Coun Jon Barry, cabinet member with responsibility for City Council (Direct) Services, said: “The West End of Morecambe is a challenging area in which to introduce recycling because there are many flats that can’t accommodate wheelie bins and boxes.
“We believe we have come up with a solution which we hope will benefit both our residents and the environment.”
Information packs have been delivered to all households that will be changing onto this new way of waste collection. For information or queries about the new waste collection scheme, please call Lancaster City Council's helpline on 0800 092 9705. Lines are open on Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
