Students from Lancaster and Morecambe College are bringing some artistic flair to a 1950s festival which will be hitting Morecambe this summer.
Organisers of this year’s Tutti Frutti Festival, which will be taking place on July 25 and 26, asked students at the college to come up with designs based on a 1950s theme.
Around 30 students on the National Diploma Art and Design course jumped at the opportunity and produced some excellent work.
It was a tough choice picking a first, second and third place in the competition as the standard was so high.
The judging panel included local artist Gerry Brooks, Beryl Spelling, chair of Poulton Neighbourhood Management and Sue Boswell, chair of the Tutti Frutti Festival organising committee.
Sarah O Keefe came out on top and picked up a £30 book token for her efforts.
Lauren Knight was second in the competition and Annie Baron picked up the prize for third place.
All of the designs will be on show at this year’s festival.
Sue Boswell said: “All of the entries were superb and it was difficult choosing between them as they are all so talented. In the end we selected three to win prizes of book tokens. However, I hope that people will come along to the exhibition on Saturday July 26 at The Platform to see for themselves.”
The Tutti Frutti Festival kicks off on Friday July 25 at the Carleton nightclub at 7.30pm.
Perfomers include The HotWires, teddy-boy band Furious and nationally acclaimed band The Firebirds.
The following day, July 26, the action moves to The Platform with a host of free entertainment.
There will be live music including tribute acts to Elvis and Buddy Holly and the Wild Kats. There will also be clothing stalls, vintage vehicles, traditional seaside entertainment and children’s entertainment.
Saturday night is back at the Carleton for performances by Crazy Jay and the Partytimers, Darryl Higham and Phil Hayley and his Comments. Doors open at 7pm for 8pm start and ends at 2am.
Tickets for the evening show are only £15 each or £25 for a weekend pass (Fri and Sat night) and they are on sale at the Tourist Information Centre, The Platform, Morecambe, telephone: 01524 582803.
The Tutti Frutti Festival now has its own web site: www.tutti-frutti-festival.com containing lots more information about the event with photos from last year’s festival too.
The Tutti Frutti Festival is funded by Poulton Neighbourhood Management and Winning Back Morecambe’s West End. Lancaster City Council’s Festival Innovation Fund contributed £500.
