Worried about your youngster being bored during the April school holidays?

Want to steer them away from the TV to do something more adventurous instead?

Look no further than Lancaster City Council's April School Holiday Activities Programme which offers a wide variety of sports and arts activities and awesome days out for children aged between three and 16 years old.

Places can be booked and paid for at Salt Ayre Sports Centre, Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm (from 10am to 7pm on Wednesday) or by contacting the booking information line on 01524 842493, between the same times.

But you’ll have to be quick - places fill up very quickly for these popular activities.

Coaching sessions at Blackburn Rovers Soccer School followed by a Premiership match against Tottenham Hotspurs on Saturday April 5 is a must for all footy fans. For kids with heads for heights try Knowsley Safari Park’s Aerial Extreme, the largest adventure ropes courses of its kind in the UK (variety of height levels available).

New activities include script to screen at Regent Park Studios and kayaking, aerial runway and assault course adventures at YMCA Lakeside National Centre on Lake Windermere.

Other favourites on offer include karate, archery, fencing, tri-golf or for the more daring why not try the indoor climbing/abseiling, off-road buggy driving, skiing and self defence courses.

For those looking for something with a difference activities include a guided nature walk, mountain biking, horseriding, orienteering, trampolining and mountain boarding (Surf the Turf), at the new venue Lakeland Maize, Sedgwick.

Arts workshops include movie making, stadium building, pottery, costume designing, dancing, cooking, puppet making and the opportunity to build your very own electronic fruit organ.

Throughout the programme you’ll find a tempting choice of workshops for three to seven year olds, some of which are free of charge and run in partnership with the Adult College family learning department.

There is something for everyone during the April half term holiday with the variety of courses Lancaster City Council can offer.

All sessions are in a fun and safe environment by experienced coaches with full day and half day activities available. Equipment is provided for all courses and transport is on offer for some of the sessions (see the activity programme information booklet for more information). Different age groups apply to certain activity workshops. Places on all the activities offered are strictly limited to ensure a high quality coaching session.

A copy of the activities programme is available on Lancaster City Council's website - www.lancaster.gov.uk or from Salt Ayre Sports Centre, Lancaster and Morecambe Town Halls and the council's community pools at Hornby, Carnforth and Heysham.
