'Avoid the worst and put safety first' is the message for older people at two Accident Prevention Information Days to be held in Morecambe and Lancaster.
Organised by Lancaster Accident Prevention Partnership, the events are an opportunity for older people to access information and advice.
They will be held at The Platform in Morecambe on Tuesday March 11 and Marsh Age Link, on St Thomas More Walk in Lancaster, on Friday March 14.
Both events take place between 10am to 3pm and will offer advice including:
* Falls Prevention and Sloppy Slipper Exchange
* Fire Safety
* Pension's Advice
* Handyperson Service
* Age Concern Service's
* 50 Forward
* Police Community Support Officers
For those attending the events there will be the chance to swap old, ill-fitting 'sloppy' slippers for a brand new, better fitting and supportive pair.
To claim the FREE slippers the older person must be a permanent resident of Morecambe or Lancaster and must bring along their old, worn out, ill-fitting sloppy slippers in person. A falls risk assessment will be completed before swapping the slippers for a new well fitting pair. The new slippers will be provided on a first come, first served basis.
Also available during the event will be information packs and 'Data Link' containers. These containers hold individual personal details and a list of medication being taken and this information can assist ambulance crew in making quicker decisions in the event of an emergency situation.
There will also be the chance to arrange to have a Home Fire Safety check. The checks involve a representative of Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service visiting the persons home and giving advice, as well as fitting FREE 10 year smoke alarms where necessary. Any resident within Lancashire can request one and they are completely free of charge.
