Spring Clean

Two streets in Heysham will be the first to benefit from a new programme of deep cleans being launched by Lancaster City Council.

Two streets in Heysham will be the first to benefit from a new programme of deep cleans being launched by Lancaster City Council.

Council workers will be moving onto Woborrow Road and Barrows Lane in Heysham next month to carry out essential maintenance work under a new scheme entitled 'Street Pride’.

During the day a range of services will be carried out including street cleansing, grounds maintenance, gully emptying and minor street repairs.

Coun Jon Barry, cabinet member with responsibility for City Council (Direct) Services, said: "We all need to take pride in our environment and our surroundings. The Council is trying to encourage this by extending our programme of deep cleans and by involving local councillors and residents in the operation."

An information pack detailing the scheme will be delivered to households along each of the streets in the week prior to the clean.

They will include a Street Pride charter which residents will be asked to sign up to. The charter is a voluntary agreement between the council and residents to maintain the appearance of the streets once the city council has finished the deep clean. The aim is to encourage residents to take pride in where they live.

As an added incentive households included in the Street Pride scheme are being offered the opportunity to have their unwanted bulky household items collected by the Bulky Matters service at half price, for bookings made in the week of the clean up.

The two streets in Heysham are just the first in the Street Pride scheme. The work on Barrows Lane/ Woborrow Road will take place on Thursday 3 April.
