Women can wheel away their Sundays

Lancaster City Council are inviting women of the district to get their Sundays off to a flying start with their programme of guided cycle rides.

Lancaster City Council are inviting women of the district to get their Sundays off to a flying start with their programme of guided cycle rides.

Following the success of the 2007 series of guided rides for women, the 2008 programme will start in April.  Rides take place on the first Sunday of each month and will run until September.

Women on WheelsThese leisurely and interesting excursions aim to encourage all women, whatever their cycling ability, to get out and about with other like minded ladies.  The rides will all follow routes featured in the council’s cycling for all guide.

The dates for your diaries are:

April 6 - Glasson Dock and the Lune Estuary
May 4 - Crook o’ Lune and the Lune valley
June 1 – Sunderland Point
July 6 – Carnforth
August 3 – Halton
September 7 – Hest Bank and Morecambe

All rides will start at the Millennium Bridge (St George's Quay end) at 11am.  There is no need to book – just turn up and enjoy the company.

Sarah Pilling from Galgate took part in one of the rides last year and said: "I had a great time – a picturesque ride in a beautiful part of our district with some lovely ladies and lunch – what more do you need?

"I would definitely recommend it to female cyclists of all ages and abilities."

The first ride sees a trip along the Lune Estuary to Glasson Dock on April 6.  An easy ride, with a seafaring atmosphere, it takes cyclists along the breezy shores of the Lune Estuary before arriving at the nineteenth century Glasson Dock.   Stops will be taken en route for refreshments.
