Lancaster City Council is celebrating a year of cycling along Morecambe’s promenade by hosting a party for all the family.
Just over a year ago the city council lifted historic byelaws which made it illegal to cycle along the promenade to encourage more people to travel by bike.
To celebrate 12 months of healthy travel, an anniversary party will be held on the promenade on Sunday May 11.
Centred around The Dome, the fun begins at 11am and ends at around 3.30pm.
There will be lots to see and do so bring along your bikes, trikes, tandems and scooters and join in the fun.
Entertainment will include:
- Ben Slinger cycle stunt show
- Smoothie making by pedal power
- Adapted Bikes
- Dr Bike
- Police post coding
- Entertainment and fun activities for children
- Cycling demonstrations
To get there by bike why not take advantage of the guided cycle ride from the St George’s Quay side of the Millennium Bridge at 10.45am.
Coun Eileen Blamire, cabinet member with responsibility for cycling, said: “Following last year’s success I would urge as many people as possible to turn up and join in the celebrations. With or without a bike, it promises to be a fun filled day for all ages.”
