Lancaster City Council is calling on all local wildlife lovers to join Birdwatch columnist Jon Carter on a bike ride with a difference.
On Sunday, May 25, Jon will be taking nature lovers on a birdwatching tour of the Lune Estuary giving riders a chance to see newly arrived summer migrants and resident species, many of which will be in the throes of the breeding season.
Birds such as the common whitethroat should be in full song along the way in addition to sightings of terns, egrets and a wide range of other interesting birds.
The ride will take a couple of hours, be leisurely paced over flat terrain and aimed at beginners as well as those with some birdwatching experience. There will be a number of scheduled stops en route along with other impromptu stops in the event of something interesting making an appearance.
Riders should meet at the Millennium Bridge (Lancaster end) at 11am – everyone welcome free of charge. Don't forget to bring your binoculars and some lunch!
