The Strawbs will make a welcome return to The Platform in Morecambe on Saturday May 24, this time in Electric format.
The Strawbs first hit the charts in the UK and Europe in the early 1970s with ‘Grave New World’ and ‘Bursting at the Seams’. From the mid 70s they concentrated their attention on the United States and Canada where their albums spent over 52 weeks on the Billboard charts. They toured regularly with the likes of Santana, Peter Frampton, The Eagles, REO Speedwagon and Frank Zappa.
The band returns to the UK in their electric format for a series of shows in 2008. The Strawbs’ latest album ‘Live at NEARfest’ celebrates the Strawbs’ headline appearance at the North East Art Rock Festival in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in June 2004. NEARfest is the most prestigious progressive rock festival in the world, an annual event celebrating the resurgence of progressive and art rock worldwide.
It was at this event that songwriter Dave Cousins, guitarist Dave Lambert, Keyboard player John Hawken , Bass player Chas Cronk and drummer Rod Coombes – the classic line up of Britain’s most successful international folk rock band – became reunited.
Most recently Dave Cousins, Dave Lambert and Chas Cronk have been touring in the UK with an acoustic show which came to the Platform in February 2006. Don’t miss this chance to catch the electric line up – there are only a handful of UK dates a year!
The show will start at 8pm and tickets cost £14 adults, £13 concessions from the Box Office on 01524 582803.
