Do you have an hour to spare which could be used to help others?

If so, then you might be interested in the range of events that are taking place across the district during National Volunteer Week (2 June - 8 June).

Tuesday, June 3 - Volunteer Fair, Banqueting Room, Town Hall, Lancaster
A diverse range of organisations looking for volunteers will be on hand to discuss some of the opportunities which are available including Action for the Blind, Inward House, Williamson Park and the YMCA.

So, why not pop along, have a cup of tea and a biscuit and find out more?  Starts at 1pm and finishes at 3pm.

Thursday, June 5 - Time Banks - Parkinson Suite, Hornby Institute, Hornby
Come along and meet the Hornby Helpline between 1.30 and 3.30pm and find out what services they provide and how being a member of Hornby time bank can make a difference to your life - one hour at a time.

Saturday, June 7 - Caton Gala, Caton
The Lancaster District Fifty Forward Project Team will be available at Caton Gala to answer all your questions and point you in the right direction towards voluntary opportunities.

Sunday, June 8 - Volunteer Fair, Williamson Park, Lancaster
The Ashton Memorial will be the venue for a Volunteer Fair between noon and 3pm on Sunday 8th June.

This will be a fun day for all the family with face painting, craft tables, tree walks, a green gym and live music in the dell.

Volunteering is a great way of meeting new people. There are no age limits to volunteering – current volunteers range from 16 to 86 - so there is something for everyone.

Coun John Barnes, Lancaster City Council's representative on the 50 Forward  Project Board said: "National Volunteer week is a great opportunity for anyone with spare time on their hands to find out how they can use their skills and interests to help others.

"Volunteers are some of the unsung heroes in our district and without them many services would not be able to function.

"Volunteering is a great way to help the community and I would encourage anyone with some spare time to attend these events to find out more."

The events have been organised by Lancaster District 50 Forward project, one of only eight such pilot projects around the country which aims to help older people lead active lives.

It has been designed in partnership with Lancaster City Council, Lancashire County Council, Department of Work and Pensions, FOPS, Age Concern Lancashire, Signposts and the Lancaster District Older People’s Partnership.
