Park to go greener with your help

Lancaster City Council has launched an online consultation to find out the public's views on how Lottery cash could be spent on improving Williamson Park.

Lancaster City Council has launched an online consultation to find out the public's views on how Lottery cash could be spent on improving Williamson Park.

The park has been granted  £46,000 to work up detailed plans on how to make the park more sustainable.

And to do that the people behind the project need your help.

Coun Eileen Blamire, chairman of the Williamson Park management board, explained: "Williamson Park is an asset to our community and one which we must do all we can to preserve and enhance.

"We have already received a number of suggestions on how we can do that, ranging from hosting larger events, creating wedding reception facilities, developing the educational facilities or improving the horticultural aspects of the park.

"We really want to know what people like and dislike about the park and how it could be developed in the future."

Volunteers and staff members will be around the park throughout May asking visitors to complete questionnaires. There will also be some surveys conducted within the town centre and other recreational facilities in the district.

If you would like to complete a questionnaire, but are unable to get to the park, there is a choice of completing an on line survey by visiting www.lancaster.gov.uk/consultationmaster, or using the telephone answering line on 01524 582855.

The closing date for the consultation is May 31.

The suggestions will help the production of a 'Stage Two' application to access more Lottery grants.
